35
Years of Optical Experience.
I
Chapter One
One Optician, One Address, One Standard of Care.
VIEWTOPIA Optical is a boutique dispensing practice at 810 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, NY 11223.
There is one licensed optician here. His name is Abe Zami. He has been fitting prescription eyewear for over 35 years. Every consultation, measurement, and follow-up visit is handled by Abe personally.
No rotating staff. No sales floor associates. The same credentialed professional, every time.
VIEWTOPIA Optical serves patients from across Brooklyn and beyond. The practice does not sell eyewear online. That is not a limitation — it is a professional position, and it is explained in full below.
“That kind of tenure is not just a number.”

Chapter Two
How 35 Years of Optical Experience Shapes Every Prescription We Fill.
Thirty-five years of experience produces something that credentials alone cannot.
That kind of tenure is not just a number. It means Abe has fitted the same prescription types across lens generations, across frame trends, across every iteration of the technology available. He has seen what works across thousands of patients and what falls short across just as many.
Here is what most people do not realize about choosing an optician: experience with your specific prescription type matters as much as the equipment. A 35-year specialist in complex Brooklyn prescriptions brings pattern recognition that no amount of classroom training replicates.
Kings Highway is one of the most diverse retail corridors in the borough. The patients Abe sees range from first-time glasses wearers to patients with prescriptions exceeding minus ten diopters who have visited multiple shops without a satisfying result. The practice’s position — on the B and Q line, in the center of southern Brooklyn — means the patient population is genuinely varied, and the clinical situations Abe encounters are rarely routine.
III
Chapter Three
It’s Abe Zami — Licensed, Certified, and Present for Every Single Visit.
Abe Zami is the owner, the optician, and the person you will speak with every time you visit.
He is not one of several staff members whose schedule you have to check. There is no associate who handles fittings while Abe manages the business side. The person with professional accountability for every outcome is the same person who performs every consultation.
That structure is intentional. Prescription eyewear is a medical device that must be measured to the individual, fitted to their face, and verified against their prescription before it leaves the shop. Abe has staked 35 years of professional reputation on doing that correctly. He does not delegate it.
When something needs attention after pickup — a frame that sits unevenly, a lens zone that requires adjustment — Abe handles that directly. The person who made the fitting decision is available to revisit it.
Chapter Four
Three Verifiable Credentials Behind Every Pair of Glasses We Make.
Every credential listed here is verifiable. None of them are honorary.
#005762-01
NYS Optician License
New York State requires a license to fit and dispense prescription eyewear under Education Law §7101-7121. This is the legally required credential to practice as a dispensing optician in New York. It is not a retail certificate. Viewtopia holds License #005762-01.
#018067
ABO-NCLE Certificate
The American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO-NCLE) is the national voluntary certification body for ophthalmic dispensing. Passing the ABO examination demonstrates competency above the minimum state licensing threshold. Verifiable through the ABO public registry.
Transitions
Experts Course Certification
A manufacturer-level credential issued by Essilor/Transitions Optical upon completion of advanced training in photochromic lens technology, activation science, and patient counseling. It is not a general product knowledge quiz. For Brooklyn patients moving between light environments daily, this expertise has direct practical value.
Three credentials. All current. All earned through completed coursework and examination. All listed here because patients deserve to know exactly who is making their eyewear.
“A prescription is a set of numbers. What it does not specify is where to place the optical center of the lens relative to the pupil.”

Chapter Five
Why Prescription Eyewear Requires an In-Person Fitting — and Why We Won’t Compromise on That.
VIEWTOPIA Optical does not sell prescription eyewear online. That is a clinical and ethical position, not a technological gap.
A prescription is a set of numbers. It tells an optician what correction the eyes require. What it does not specify is where to place the optical center of the lens relative to the pupil. It does not define the vertex distance — the space between the back of the lens and the eye — which affects how a strong prescription performs in practice. It does not account for pantoscopic tilt, the slight downward angle of the frame that determines where the reading and distance zones land in a progressive lens.
These measurements require the patient to be physically present. They require an optician who knows what to do with them. When they are skipped or estimated, the lenses can be technically correct on paper and functionally wrong in use — producing headaches, eye strain, or distorted peripheral vision that the patient can feel but cannot easily diagnose.
Abe’s 35 years of in-person fitting experience is built on understanding exactly where the process fails when the optician is removed from the equation. The in-person-only commitment is the direct result of that understanding.
The Commitment
What We Commit to for Every Patient Who Walks Through Our Door.
Every patient at VIEWTOPIA Optical receives a fitting measured to them specifically — not estimated, not defaulted.
01
Your prescription is reviewed before any order is placed. If a value looks unusual or the notation needs clarification, Abe identifies it before fabrication begins — not after.
02
Your measurements are taken in person, in the frame you have selected, before the lens order goes to the lab.
03
If something needs attention after your glasses are ready, Abe is available to assess and address it. Adjustments and post-pickup consultations are part of the service.
The Location
Serving Brooklyn Patients and Beyond From Kings Highway.
VIEWTOPIA Optical is located at 810 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, NY 11223.
The practice serves patients from across Brooklyn — Gravesend, Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, Flatbush, Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, Borough Park, and beyond. The Kings Highway B and Q station is directly below the shop. Most of southern Brooklyn is within a short subway or bus ride.
No appointment is required for a consultation, fitting, frame adjustment, or repair visit. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours.
